Encounter Table Quickstart

Fastest Path

  1. Use Tactics to create the battlefield problem.
  2. Send it to Prep, then add the map, creatures, party, waves, and marker positions.
  3. Press Load to Table when combat starts, then open Display for the player-facing view.

Table

  • Upload or drop a map, then set grid size, opacity, and map width/height.
  • Drag tokens by their centers. Click a token to edit HP, AC, initiative, footprint width/height, movement, portrait, notes, prone, slowed, or hidden.
  • Use movement preview by selecting a token and moving the cursor. Slowed/prone reduce movement.
  • Add AOE templates for fireballs, cones, squares, and other spell areas.
  • Use initiative controls on the right to sort and cycle turns.

Prep

  • Create a session pack with multiple encounters for the night.
  • Set party level/size, then add SRD creatures or enter CR/XP manually to see advisory threat guidance.
  • Save your player characters once, then add them to any prep encounter.
  • Upload a prep map and place creature markers before the session starts. Use footprint width/height for large monsters, siege weapons, and objects.
  • Use tactical markers to show chokepoints, objectives, high ground, routes, and reinforcement entries.
  • Press Wave to add prepared enemies that are not already on the table.

Tactics

  • Pick objective, environment, enemy style, pressure, and tactical flavor.
  • Generate Brief creates zones, enemy jobs, round pressure, utility, morale, and disruption hooks.
  • Add extra zones, roles, or round events when you want more control.
  • Send to Prep turns the plan into prep notes, map markers, and cue cards.
  • When loaded to the table, timeline events appear as DM-only round cues that can add a wave, move, or dismiss.

Player Display

  • Press Display for a same-computer TV window or a temporary room code for another device.
  • Enemy HP, AC, notes, prep, and DM records are removed from the player payload.
  • Hidden tokens stay off the player view until you reveal them.
  • Use Focus, Fit, zoom, fullscreen, and drag-to-pan for big maps.

Images

  • Use map upload for still or animated battle maps and portrait upload on selected tokens.
  • The Advanced Image Forge makes AI battle maps from a prompt. Add your own provider key in its settings, then Generate.
  • Generated maps can be sent straight to the table or saved to the Map Library.

Files

  • Export saves the current table as a JSON file.
  • Prep pack export/import is best for sending a whole session to another DM.
  • Party export/import saves recurring player characters.
  • New clears table, prep, party, maps, tokens, and AOEs after a warning.
  • Settings can restore the last recovery snapshot created before New or a full encounter import.
